Broadband Services Without a Contract

For the most part, broadband providers typically offer their services in exchange for at least a twelve-month commitment from the customer. However, there are a few providers in the UK that offer broadband without a contract. Before you rush out to sign up with one of these contract-free services, keep a few things in mind.

First, expect to pay a higher monthly rate for the service. The reason for this is simple; the broadband provider is taking more of a risk by offering services without a contract. In addition, they do not have the relative security of a twelve-month commitment, so in order to compensate for the perceived level of extra risk, a higher monthly fee is usually charged.

There is also a good chance that foregoing a contract will mean that you have to pay some sort of set-up fee in order to start using the service. In contrast, broadband deals that involve a contract are more likely to waive the set-up fees altogether. The savings on this line item alone is often worth committing to at least a twelve-month contract.

Nonetheless, there are some benefits to initiating broadband services without a contract. Should you need to terminate the service quickly, there is no contractual obligation to fulfil, such as paying for all or at least part of the remaining charges applicable to such a contract. In addition, companies offering contract plans sometimes have contract-free services. If you find that you like the service and plan on staying with them for a long time, it is usually an easy process to migrate to a contract and take advantage of the lower rates.
