The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 Smartphone is your basic clamshell design flip-phone. It’s the first flip-phone in the line of Blackberry mobile phones and while it’s not the most compact measuring at 3.9 inches by 1.9 inches by .7 inches deep, it’s not bad. When closed, users have a 128×160 pixel resolution screen that gives alerts for new messages, missed calls, and voicemails.
The phone is Bluetooth enabled and has a 2.0 megapixel camera. The strong email support and Wi-Fi connectivity of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 Smartphone is similar to the other Blackberry mobile phones. The phone also supports Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, PDF, JPEG, and GIF files. However, unlike other BlackBerry mobile phones the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 Smartphone does not offer GPS which for some may be a must.
The keyboard design is up for debate. The keyboard design for the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 Smartphone is borrowed from the BlackBerry Pearl and allows each button to be assigned two letters. When typing, the user is given possible word combinations which, if they like, they can select and forego typing the whole word. This proves difficult for some, but others enjoy it.
While the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 Smartphone comes with a lot of excellent features and is somewhat sleek in design, it does not support a 3G network which is the newest wave of technology among mobile phones.
