At a retail price of around £350 the Nokia N96 is definitely a high-end mobile phone and of all the Nokia mobile phones it is one of their most prized models. But is the price worth it? Well if you are into sleek then you’ll like the Nokia N96. The black casing and large touch-screen adds to the feel of the high-end phone. Of course you’ll get the standard features of phones at this price level. Such features include GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G support.
The camera supports 16 million colours. There is an ambient-light detector that allows users to adjust the light according to the background. The picture quality was much better than some of Nokia’s other mobile phones however the camera seems to have a few glitches here and there, especially the first time you use it.
The built in memory should be enough for most people and the music player supports the standard audio files. The phone also gets good reception for the FM radio. Calls are clear with the phone and there are very few disturbances.
However, the phone does have a slightly cheap feel. Nokia used plastic around the sides and the phone has a plastic battery cover which could easily break if the phone was dropped. Additionally, at times the phone can be slow. If you are going to pay £350 for a phone, the phone shouldn’t have these problems. In my opinion, it should be made of gold. Further adding to the notion that the Nokia N96 isn’t worth the price tag is that the newest addition to the Nokia mobile phone family, the N97, will out shadow the Nokia N96. The N97 costs about £100 more than the N96 and the price of the N96 hasn’t dropped yet like one would expect so why pay nearly the same amount for the Nokia N96 when you can purchase the N97 and get a better phone? In short, forget about the N96. If you are going to pay this much for a phone, go for the N97.
