The LG Optimus One is among the first handsets running Android version 2.2, Froyo.  This offers operating speeds up to three times faster than earlier models.  Its internet browsing, loading of web pages, transferring between applications and multitasking is much smoother and faster.  It is optimised with all of Google’s latest services such as voice activation, Google Maps™ and Google Shopper™.  The good mobile phone news is that the LG Optimus One allows you to access over 80,000 Android applications that can only aid functionality.

Sony Ericsson Arc Review

On initial inspection, the Sony Ericsson Arc looks just like any other android phone.  It has a standard 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM, a screen of 480 x 854 pixels and an 8-megapixel camera.  There is nothing too advanced so far, pretty standard stuff.  Moving on, though, its super-slim design is impressive, as is its 4.2-inch screen, which is quite large in comparison to the phone size.  The phone looks stylish in either of its silver or black options.

The Sony Ericsson Arc does not have a touchscreen – a major failing.  The physical buttons are positioned below the screen.  Another awkward feature of this phone is that the headphone socket is positioned on the left side of the phone.  It would be much more sensible to place it on the top or even the bottom, so that the wires do not hinder you when placing the phone in your shirt pocket.

The large screen uses Sony’s Reality Display, which is one reason the phone can be so thin.  At only 8.7mm, it is one of the thinnest phones on the market.  The colours are vibrant and the resolution is nothing special but is adequate for cheap mobile phones in this price range.

In contrast, the 8-megapixel camera takes truly impressive photos, even in poor light.  Indoor photos taken with the Sony Ericsson Arc are clearer when compared to other similarly priced mobile phones.  Additional camera advantages include the ease with which the camera can be used, and the way it rapidly detects faces and focuses.  Using it one-handed is however a little awkward and there is no optical zoom.

The Sony Ericsson Arc is technologically advanced, using the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with a few unique interface customisations.  It just may be the best mobile phone in this price range, its advantages outweighing some poor design decisions.

There are many websites that offer great mobile phone deals; you just have to find one that you are comfortable purchasing from.

Samsung Omnia 7 Smartphone

What It Has

A vivid 4-inch AMOLED screen is the first thing you notice when you pick up this Samsung mobile phone.  It’s got a good look to it and the touchscreen makes everything that much easier to navigate.  It’s powered by Windows Phone 7 and is the first from Samsung to boast this, and the merger of Windows Phone 7 with Samsung is highly successful here.  The colours and the sharp, crisp images on the screen make it a pleasure to look at, and its 1Ghz processor means that it’s a fast one as well.  We love that it allows you to zip around the screen and move between apps quickly and easily.  The 5-megapixel camera also boasts the ability to record 720p high-definition videos.  In hot spots, the Internet on this phone is super fast as well, which means communication and web browsing is not a problem at all.  The GPS receiver is also really useful and you can use your Samsung Omnia 7 as a nav-sat device when you are out on foot or in your vehicle.

What It Lacks

The design of this handset was a little underwhelming but sometimes you just have to look beyond appearance to find real quality.  The internal memory and the screen definitely make up for this small detail, in this reviewer’s opinion.

Conclusion

With some pretty remarkable handset deals from Three.co.uk, this mobile phone is a real winner and would give you all of the specs that you could want for an affordable price.

LG Viewty Snap GM360 Mobile Phone Review

The newest addition to LG’s Viewty list of mobile phones is the LG Viewty Snap GM360.  It has a very powerful camera featuring 5 megapixels, optical zoom, an autofocus to help keep your aim steady, and an LED flash for night or indoor shots.  It also offers black and white negatives, sepia (photographs made in a dark brown colour), and an option to draw onto pictures using programs such as Microsoft Paint.

The music player only offers the basics.  However, it does allow AAC, WMA, MP3, and M4A file formats and any music player used can move songs onto it.  Sound quality is good, but it does include a 3.5 mm headphone jack.  You can use the headphones included with the phone, or you can use your own.  A built-in FM radio is available too.

The LG Viewty Snap comes with a microSD slot, allowing for up to 16 GB of additional memory.  It offers three screens with the first used for Facebook, the second for Livesquare; the third is customisable.

One big drawback is how much slower it takes to load pictures, music, or the media player compared to other mobile phones.  Most importantly, there is a noticeable delay from the time you press the button to take a picture and the time it takes the camera to snap the picture.

Deals start at 18 months, 50 minutes, unlimited texts, and a free handset for 15 pounds – without a discount.

Dell Streak Smartphone Review

Dell has a great little device in their new mobile phone named Dell Streak.  Offering a 5-inch, 800 x 480 LCD viewing screen, and roughly 400 MB RAM, it is great for reading, viewing long email, browsing web pages, or examining documents on the QuickOffice application preloaded to the phone.  Please note: because there is no trackball, fixing typing errors can be difficult.

The thin 10 mm design still fits in a pocket, as long as it is a big pocket, because the handset is rather large.  When you compare mobile phones to larger, almost iPad-type, devices, determine what your uses are going to be to evaluate if the larger size is needed.

With 3G Wi-Fi, expect great web browsing; although the Dell Streak runs on Android 1.6 and would probably be better on 2.1.  There is a front-facing VGA camera for video conferencing, and a rear-facing 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash.

With USB, you can easily move music over to the phone’s quality music player by just dragging and dropping.  Dell Streak also has a user-friendly music player.  Unfortunately, there is no FM radio, which may be an issue for some buyers.  HTC Desire and Sony Ericsson offer customised skins, as does the Dell Streak.

Recent deals include one at the O2 Shop that offers a free handset with 35-pound monthly fees and a 24-month contract. Review the options as there are additional charges for number of minutes needed and extras such as picture messaging.

Samsung Monte Slider Overview

What It Has

Not everyone is looking for a mobile phone that has every spec imaginable and doubles as your personal assistant and PC all in one.  If that is the case for you, then the Samsung Monte Slider is a good mobile phone that offers consumers some of the perks of a handset without giving you too many of the bells and whistles.  If you don’t intend to use them anyway, then this shouldn’t be a problem.  You can take pictures with this mobile phone’s 1.3-megapixel camera (not the best camera out there, but hey, it gets the job done if this isn’t your priority), and it is Bluetooth compatible as well as a good little phone to play MP3’s on.  You can go up to 8GB memory with the right card.  There’s an app that allows you to record FM radio programming as well.  There is actually a built-in Facebook app to allow you to easily track updates, though, so that’s something for those who just want the basic connection to social networking.

What It Lacks

Other than basic calling and texting capabilities, this phone is severely lacking in any of the other specs that you might want or need, depending on your needs.

Conclusion

This Samsung mobile phone is pretty uncomplicated in purpose: it’s great at the basics and lacks in other specs.  If you are in the market for a mobile phone that is straightforward like this then this could be a good fit for you.
